720 -hour film content has been changed by the Censor Board of India in recent years

Parasites were revised 3 minutes and 54 seconds

Between 2017 and 2025, the Censor Board of India changed over 720 hours of film content, data shows. Changes include removing scenes or music, replacing dialogues, and metadata such as anti -smoking warnings.

Data further suggests that the revised material had about 550 hours (76%) of deletion, inserts about 80 hours (12%), and less than 35 hours (5%) replacement. The remaining changes included other types of modifications. It is important to note that these figures refer to the total duration of changed materials, not the number of cuts. A single cut can range from several minutes of deletion (such as removing a song) to just one second (such as muted a word). Chart 1 shows this division.

In particular, deletion, insertion and replacement can be applied to visual scenes, music, or dialogues. Data suggests that 366 hours of amendments were warned like visual visual (50%), 183 hours of music (25%), and metadata insertion close to 120 hours (17%). Chart 2 refers to the accurate division

Understand these conditions better, let’s look at specific amendments in famous films. In Viduthalai Part 2, released in 2024, Vijay Sethupathi and Manju Warrier, directed by Vitararan, were added about the vote used as a weapon. This action falls in the category of “insertion”, and the media element in this case was “text dialogue”. Whenever anti-smoking messages are overladed on the screen, they are also classified as “insertion”. In this case, the media element is “metadata”, as the warning does not change dialogues or scenes.

In the Oscar-Vigner 2019 Korean film parasites, stabbing scenes, blood on the face, an intimate moment on the couch, and other such sequences were removed. These changes have been classified as “deletion”, with the affected media element being “visual view”. Overall, the material of 3 minutes and 54 seconds in the parasite was revised.

This coupling -congratulations to the discussion scenes -was the most common form of sensorship. As mentioned earlier, the deletion created 76% of all tasks, while visual views were responsible for 50% of the modified media elements (see Chart 1 and 2).

In the 2023 film OMG 2, Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starring, “God of God Meditating and Bathing”, the scenes were replaced with accepted scenes showing. Such changes fall under “replacement”, with the affected media element being “visual view”. In Dabangg 3, some were replaced with fierce expressions, rather than muted unholy dialogues. They are also classified as “replacement”, but in this case the affected media element is “dialogue”.

These findings are based on data dedicated by CBFC Watch, an independent research project CBFC Watch, dedicated to the discovery of film censorship works across India. Open source data base developed by diagramchasing.fun can be accessed here https://cbfc.watch/
