Sean Penn denies hitting Madonna with a baseball bat: ‘She’s one of the people I love’

Hollywood actor Sean Penn was married to Madonna from 1985 to 1989. During the divorce, it was reported that Sean had hit his wife with a baseball bat. However, he has denied any such claims.

Sean Condemns the Claims

“A SWAT team broke into my house,” he said, recalling his past relationship.

He added that Madonna had told police she was worried about guns in the house. “I said: ‘I’m not coming out. I’m going to finish my breakfast.’ The next thing I knew was windows were being broken all around the house and they came in. They had me in handcuffs,” he added.

Despite his turbulent past, Sean admits he still has sympathy for his ex-wife.

He said: “She’s someone I love. It seems like it’s a lot easier to repair friendships after a divorce if there are no kids. [ex-wife Robin Wright] And I stayed for a long time. There was a lot of drama. It’s very important to get it right if kids are involved, but there’s no easy swing, right?”

About their relationship

Sean, 63, and Madonna, 65, were married from 1985 to 1989. The Like a Virgin hitmaker first filed for divorce from Sean in 1987, however, she withdrew the papers before filing again two years later. At the time, several reports claimed that Sean had physically assaulted the pop star, including beating her with a baseball bat, and in fact, tied her to a chair for hours.

However, Madonna has denied that there was ever any physical abuse in her marriage to Sean.

“While we have certainly had heated arguments more than once during our marriage, Sean has never hit me, ‘tied me up’ or physically assaulted me, and any reports to the contrary are completely outrageous, malicious, reckless and false,” she wrote This was stated in a statement testifying on Sean’s behalf in a defamation suit against Lee Daniels in 2015.

At the time, the actor filed a $10 million lawsuit against Lee after the Empire co-creator mentioned the scene while discussing domestic violence in Hollywood. The suit was settled in 2016.
