Poster of ‘Headhunting to Beatboxing’
Following its announcement at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the AR Rahman-produced documentary From headhunting to beatboxing It will have its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024. The film will compete for the Best Documentary Film award at the festival.

Directed by Rohit Gupta, From headhunting to beatboxing The book explores Nagaland’s sonic heritage, and traces the ‘evolution of music across cultures, tribes and generations’, from the ancient traditions of head-cutting tribes to the renaissance of music in the state.
This is Rahman’s second major venture as a filmmaker. Earlier, his musical feature film 99 Songswhich he also wrote, premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in 2019.

But From headhunting to beatboxing Speaking at the premiere at IFFM, Rahman said in a statement, “This film is very special to us as it highlights the beautiful state of Nagaland and unravels its rich cultural and musical history. Rohit and I are looking forward to the premiere and are excited to bring it to audiences in Melbourne.”
The 15th edition of the IFFM will be held in Melbourne, Australia from August 15 to August 25. The festival, which celebrates Indian cinema, is organised by the Government of Victoria, the executive branch of the Australian state of Victoria.
