John Cena and Awkwafina (how sweet her tone is!) evade murderous lottery-chasers in Paul Feig’s new Los Angeles-based action-comedy. Jackpot!
First titles Grand Theft LottoThe film focuses on an aspiring actress, Katie, played by Awkwafina, who wins the coveted ‘Grand Lottery Jackpot’. This windfall paints a giant red target over Katie’s head, as she is pursued and attacked by violent jackpot-hunters seeking to claim the prize for themselves. Cena plays Noel, a muscular lottery ‘security agent’ assigned to protect Katie. Sim Liu arrives in a white suit as Noel’s business rival in the lottery security business.
The film’s synopsis reads, “In the near future, a new ‘Grand Lottery’ is introduced in California – with the provision that the winner must die before sunset to legally claim his or her multi-billion dollar jackpot.”
Feig has directed films such as Bridesmaids (2011), detective (2015), and a simple favor (2018).
Jackpot! Written by Rob Yescombe, the show will stream on Amazon Prime Video from August 15.
