Family ties in Hollywood often lead to speculation about on-screen collaborations. Emma Roberts, who has often riffed on the world of nepotism, now explains why she hasn’t worked with her iconic aunt.
The Space Cadet star revealed that working with Julia Roberts has “never been right”. The interview with Variety comes after the recent release of her new sci-fi film on Prime Video, which received a lukewarm response from critics and fans, who labelled it “legitimately dull and unrealistic”.

Despite being a fan of her aunt’s work, Emma Roberts, the daughter of Julia’s brother Eric, has yet to have the chance to work with her. Speaking to Variety, Emma expressed her desire to find the perfect project for her and her aunt. “I want to find the perfect project for me and my aunt, and I know something will happen.”

However, she added, “It’s never been right. He’s the best and I want to do something with him. We send each other books and talk about things, but it’s never been right.”

The time when Emma and Julia Roberts shared the screen
Although Emma Roberts and Julia Roberts haven’t shared any major on-screen projects yet, it seems they cross paths in the film world. Emma Roberts has revealed how she often watches her own movies while filming on location, mentioning her computer’s collection of favourites such as My Best Friend’s Wedding and America’s Sweethearts (where Emma also played the role of “Girl in the Purple T-Shirt”).
Although they haven’t worked together, Emma and Julia both appeared in separate stories in the 2010 romantic comedy Valentine’s Day. Maybe the Roberts women will be seen together on screen again in a future film.
