‘Like a brother’: Akshay Kumar sends ₹25 lakh to famous Punjabi singer to overcome financial crisis

Akshay Kumar once again proved that he is a true player by sending financial help to singer Glory Bawa

Chandigarh: Days after renowned Punjabi folk singer and Padma Bhushan awardee late Gurmeet Bawa’s daughter Glory Bawa sought help from the government and shared her financial troubles on social media, actor Akshay Kumar sent her a letter on Saturday. ₹25 lakh will be given to deal with the crisis.

Glory said, “I don’t have words to tell what this means to me,” adding that she is overwhelmed by this wonderful work done by her ‘brother’. Kumar refused to call it help, but something that a brother does for his sister. Asked if this money will put an end to her financial struggle, Glory said, “It will definitely help me and my family. But I need work, and I am asking for it. People have started approaching me, and I hope that artists like us will get some meaningful work.”

Kumar said, “I came to know about this from social media. Very sad to see that the family of Gurmeet Bawa ji, who was Punjab ki shaan, is facing so many financial problems today. I have sent his daughter Glory Bawa apni behan samjhe ke ek pyaar ka gesture. Yeh koi madad nahi hai, ek Punjabi aur ek kaakar hone ke wafa mera farz hai (It was very sad to see the family of Punjab’s pride Gurmeet Bawa facing financial difficulties. This is a gesture of love as a brother towards his daughter Glory Bawa. This is not help, but the fulfillment of my responsibility as a Punjabi and an artist).”

Recently, Punjab Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal and Amritsar DC Ghanshyam Thori also visited his house and gave him a gift. Each of them was given a cheque of Rs 1 lakh as assistance. Glory, the sole earning member of the family, had told in the video how her family was struggling with financial crisis. She also told how she had to take care of her sister Simran and her daughter, her daughter and the children of her late sister Laachi Bawa, who was a famous singer and passed away due to cancer.

His mother Gurmeet was known for her long ‘hek’ (singing in a single breath) which she could hold for a record 45 seconds. She was one of the artists known for singing. Jugni She was the second Punjabi singer after Alam Lohar and the first Punjabi female singer to sing on Doordarshan.
