Get ready to return to Ancient Rome as Ridley Scott brings us the long-awaited tale Gladiator IIWhich has new actors and a new story. After his recent works Napoleon, The last duelAnd House of GucciRidley Scott’s latest epic film is set to hit the big screen later in the year. Although the trailer, which was released to great acclaim at CinemaCon in early 2024, has not yet been publicly released, the first official poster has been revealed, showing new leading man Paul Mescal on the battlefield. Are you ready for war?
The sequel is set several decades after the original film, focusing on Paul Mescal’s character Lucius Verus, the grandson of former emperor Marcus Aurelius. Lucius, now forced into slavery, seeks to emulate Maximus and achieve fame as a gladiator. He will face Pedro Pascal’s character Marcus Acacius in the arena. The cast also includes Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Derek Jacobi, Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger.
ICYML: Gladiator II Explores the events following the reign of Commodus and follows Lucius as he navigates the brutal world of gladiatorial combat, driven by themes of vengeance, honor, and redemption. The film stars newcomers Barry Keoghan and Denzel Washington, as well as returning actors Connie Nielsen and Djimon Hounsou.
Gladiator II The film will release in UK cinemas on 15 November 2024, followed by a worldwide release on 22 November 2024.
