DYK: Emraan Hashmi once called Aishwarya Rai Bachchan “plastic” during a rapid-fire round on the fourth season of Karan Johar’s talk show, Koffee with Karan. After his comment in 2014, the actor faced massive criticism. In an interview with Lallantop, he addressed his controversial comment about Aishwarya and said, “If she felt bad, I would love to apologise.”
During the interview, Emraan Hashmi was asked if he regrets calling Aishwarya Rai Bachchan “plastic”, to which he promptly replied, “I regret it. I always keep saying that I have a lot of respect for all the people I spoke about.” Elaborating further, he admitted, “I regret it because it was unpleasant. Lately, people have become very sensitive. People get angry at everything on social media. In the context of the show, we were playing a game, it was all in jest. It should have been taken as a game. There are many such games in the show. Earlier, people were not so sensitive.”
She further added, “Recently, Karan Johar himself confessed that the rapid fire round was the most boring in the latest season of the show. That’s because now, the environment has completely changed. You can’t give answers like that anymore. At that time, I just wanted to win the hamper and I said what I said.” ICYMI: Aishwarya never directly responded to the comment. In an interview with Filmfare in 2019, the actress said that the worst thing anyone has ever said about her is that she is “fake and plastic.”
When asked if he has ever met Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi said, “I waited outside Aishwarya Rai’s van for almost three hours to get a glimpse of her after her film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. I was a huge fan of hers. Mohit and I were shooting in Filmistan, I told him, ‘You can’t go anywhere.’ So we waited together. I am still a huge fan of hers.”
He said, “I have never met him. I have never spoken to him. I would like to meet him. And if he feels bad about this, I would like to apologise. I would have to meet him and ask him. I am sorry if I have hurt you.”
