This excludes other major festivals such as Venice and Telluride, leading to speculation about the film’s reception. Still, its debut at TIFF is an important step toward a December release, a date that signals potential awards season buzz.
The film, based on Rachel Yoder’s debut novel of the same name, is a neo-horror thriller with a touch of dark comedy. It stars the six-time Oscar-nominated actress as an overworked mother who slowly begins to believe she is turning into a dog. The production journey of Nightbitch Filming began in July 2020 when Annapurna Pictures acquired the rights to Yoder’s novel.
