Manny Jacinto, who played Lt. Billy ‘Fritz’ Avalon in the Tom Cruise-starring movie Top Gun: Maverick, claimed that all of his scenes were edited out of the movie.
Manny Jacinto talks about his small role in Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick in the final cut. The star, who gained attention for his work in The Acolyte, talks GQ Magazine and said he trained for months for Top Gun, but saw all his scenes left in the editing room, and his character Fritz only appeared in the background for a few scenes. ‘It was still a great experience’
Manny said, “It’s good that there was a bit of backlash, but it wasn’t surprising to me. I knew the direction the film was going in. [on set]Like I can see them focusing more on the camera [other] “We all worked together and didn’t spend that much time on our scenes. Luckily, it was still a great experience – you get to see this huge machine work, you get to see how Tom Cruise works, and you get to be a small part of this huge franchise.”
He added, “Ultimately, Tom Cruise is writing stories for Tom Cruise. It’s up to us — Asian Americans, people of color — to make that happen.” [for ourselves]We can’t wait for someone else to do it. If we want to make great stories, we have to make them ourselves.”
