Sawan First Monday 2024: According to Vedic astrology, Sawan is considered to start when the Sun enters the Leo zodiac. According to the lunar calendar, the holy month begins on the day of Amavasya.
It is said that during this holy month the universe is filled with the elements of Shiva and these elements help in the purification of the mind, body and soul.
Sawan, often also known as Shravan, is a major month in the Hindu calendar. It usually falls between July and August on the Gregorian calendar and is the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar. Hindus, especially followers of Lord Shiva, give great religious and cultural importance to the month of Sawan.
Sawan 2024: Important Dates
This year the month of Sawan will start from July 22 and end on August 19. During this time, special worship of Lord Shiva and his family will be done in temples across the country. Sawan is considered a holy month in which Lord Shiva is worshiped with the wish of prosperity, marriage and wealth.
First Monday of Sawan 2024: Puja Muhurta
Abhijeet muhurat is from 12:04 pm to 12:55 pm on July 22 and Shravan Nakshatra is at 10:21 pm on July 22. Meanwhile, Pratipada tithi will last till 1:11 pm.
First Sawan Monday: Vrat Puja Vidhi
– During darshan at Lord Shiva temple, devotees perform Jalabhishek on Shiv Linga.
– Take a holy bath in the morning, worship the idol of Lord Shiva and keep chanting the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivaya’.
– Offer Belpatra, Dube, Kusha, Lotus, Blue Lotus, Jawaful Oleander and Mustard flowers to God.
– Mahamrityunjaya mantra is chanted 108 times in the name of Lord Shiva.
– Rudrabhishek is done by offering milk, curd, ghee, honey and Ganga water.
– Drinking alcohol is definitely prohibited.
– Shiv Chalisa and Shiv Aarti are recited to please Lord Shiva.
Sawan Monday 2024: Fast story
According to Skanda Purana, Narada Muni asked Lord Shiva about his deep faith in the month of Sawan. Lord Shiva claims that Goddess Sati had to face the rejection of her father because she had vowed to have him as her husband in every incarnation.
Goddess Sati gave up her body after her father insulted Shiva. After this, the daughter of Himalaya and Naina gave birth to Goddess Parvati. In this birth too, the Goddess asked to keep a strict fast during the month of Sawan to please Lord Shiva and marry him.
To obtain the blessings of Lord Shiva, there is a tradition of observing a fast on sixteen Mondays from the month of Shravan.
