Justin Timberlake’s lawyer claims he was not intoxicated at the time of his arrest

The SexyBack singer’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., claimed in court that the singer was “not intoxicated” when he was arrested by Sag Harbor police in a DWI case. Burke requested the court to dismiss the case altogether as he cited alleged errors by the police department when making the arrest. Sag Harbor Village Judge Carl Irace agreed with the motion raised by Timberlake’s lawyers and reviewed it. However, he directed the singer to return for a hearing on August 2, when the charges may need to be amended.

Timberlake was not present in court for the hearing on Friday as he was busy with his Forget Tomorrow Tour in Europe, but he will appear in court online at the next hearing.

Speaking to reporters, Timberlake’s lawyer said, “He was not intoxicated. I’ll say it again. Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated. And we’re confident that that charge – that criminal charge – will be dismissed.”

In a later statement to CNN, he said, “The most important fact to know about this case is that Justin was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested for DWI. The police made several critical mistakes in this case.”

They further said in the statement, “Justin respects law enforcement and the important work they do. He cooperated with police officers at all times and treated them the way they would want to be treated. He also respects the entire judicial process, including the district attorney and the judge who were in court today. But the fact is that he was not intoxicated and it was a mistake to arrest him for that. We are confident that these charges will be dismissed,” People magazine reported.

Justin Timberlake and his wife believe

Friday’s hearing was scheduled several weeks ago, when the I Can’t Stop the Feeling singer was arrested on one count of DWI and two charges, including driving through a red light and failing to keep a vehicle in its designated lane. According to a representative for the police department, the singer was arrested after allegedly failing to “stop at a properly placed stop sign” and “maintain” his “lane of travel.”

As the source explained, the singer and his wife Jessica Biel “confident in their legal team and continue to focus on work and their family.” The source further added that the two have always had faith in each other’s careers and Biel never misses a show of the NSYNC alumnus. “They have moved on from the arrest,” the source added.
