Though every day is a celebration of friendship, a special day to honour this lovely bond is knocking at our door. International Day of Friendship was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2011 with the idea that friendship between people, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. While July 30 is the date that was chosen by the UN, in many countries, including India and Bangladesh, Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August.
