Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on Tuesday without any legal representation. Jennifer had ‘nothing to argue with’ over split from Ben
Joe and Cheryl reflected on Jennifer’s separation from Ben, saying, “What most people don’t know is that you don’t need a lawyer to get a divorce in the United States. Certainly some people choose to involve them, but there are other non-lawyer options as well. There may not have been much to argue about, and therefore, Jennifer may not have felt the need for further legal representation. If there is an issue that needs to be resolved, they can do so with the help of a neutral third-party mediator.”
He added, “Certainly, after the mediator helps negotiate the agreement, they can have their respective attorneys review it. Maybe Jennifer didn’t feel the need to involve lawyers. That’s her decision.”

Marilyn Chinitz, a matrimonial partner at Blank Rome LLP, spoke to People discussing Jennifer’s decision to file without an attorney, known as pro se, “I think she probably just wanted to get this thing done, (there was) a lot of hesitation and hesitation, and this is a statement of, ‘I’m moving forward, I’m filing and I’m doing this on my own.'”
