Angelina Jolie to be honored with Tribute Award at Toronto International Film Festival

All about special honors

The Oscar-winning actor will be honored at a TIFF fundraiser on September 8. The honor, presented by Anne-Marie Canning, recognizes his efforts in cinema and social work. Previous award winners include Pedro Almodovar, Mira Nair and Alanis Obomsawin.

Angelina will be honored alongside Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Durga Chew-Bose, David Cronenberg, Clément Ducol and Camille, Jharrel Jerome, Mike Le and Zhao Tao, while Sandra Oh will be the honorary chairperson of the fundraising ceremony.

“Angelina Jolie is a multi-faceted talent who has entertained audiences for decades and has continually used her platform for important causes,” said TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey.

“We are so proud to present him with the 2024 TIFF Tribute Award at Impact Media. The award recognizes his extraordinary achievements in filmmaking and his unwavering commitment to positive change, cementing his status as a true humanitarian and global force,” Cameron said.

In addition, his latest film, Without Blood, will also have its world premiere at the film festival.

Written, directed and produced by Angelina, Without Blood is a war drama based on Alessandro Baricco’s novel of the same name. It tells the story of a girl’s quest for revenge and healing in a time of conflict. It stars Salma Hayek Pinault and Demian Bichir in the lead roles.

His appearance at the festival will mark his return to TIFF, following the success of his feature films, First They Killed My Father, which he wrote and directed; and The Breadwinner, which he executive produced. Both films were TIFF selections in 2017.
