John Legend praises Taylor Swift for supporting Kamala Harris: ‘It was risky…’

John praised Swift for expressing her political views openly

John confessed that he always respected the Lover singer because she was willing to take the risk of speaking out about her political opinions. “It’s always been difficult for Taylor to speak out for liberal and progressive candidates coming from the world of country music, where fans are much more conservative,” Legend told the media outlet. He added, “Speaking out about politics was a lot more risky for her than it was for me. I always respected the fact that she was willing to take that risk.”

The singer-songwriter believes Swift made the “perfect statement” in announcing her support for Harris on Instagram. She wrote in her announcement, “I’m voting [Kamala Harris] Because she fights for the rights and causes I think need a warrior to carry them forward,” the “Fortnite” artist wrote in part. “I think she is a steady, talented leader and I believe we can accomplish a lot in this country if we lead with peace and not chaos.”

John also revealed that he supports Harris and “she should be our next president” because “she’s more presidential, she’s more intelligent, she understands the problems of the American people better and she has better solutions,” as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. He also described Donald Trump as “totally toxic, inept and frankly terrible at his job.”

John talked about double standards for women

In an interview with The Independent, he spoke on the topic of the double standards women face in society. His wife, Chrissy Teigen, also fell victim to society’s double standards as she was constantly scrutinized for her appearance and parenting style. He said, “I honestly just hope that we all improve our treatment of women. Observing what happened to Chrissy has made it very clear to me that being a woman in public is harder than being a man. You see women running for office or trying to lead a company – they get criticism that would not be put on a man in the same situation.”
