British rock band Coldplay added a third show to the Mumbai leg of its “Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025” on Sunday (September 22, 2024), citing “unprecedented demand”, hours after fans expressed frustration over long virtual queues on online ticketing platform BookMyShow.

Tickets for the new show, scheduled to take place on January 21 at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai, will be available on BookMyShow from 2pm onwards.

“Due to overwhelming demand, a third Mumbai date has been added on January 21, 2025 at DY Patil Stadium. Ticket sales start today at 2pm IST,” Coldplay said in an Instagram post along with a booking link.

According to reports, the BookMyShow website and app servers crashed on Sunday when tickets went up for sale for the British band’s concerts next year.

Soon, the hashtags ‘Coldplay’, ‘BookMyShow’ and ‘Crashed’ started trending on X.

Coldplay has already announced two shows at the DY Patil Sports Stadium on January 18 and 19, 2025.

Many fans shared screenshots of their computer screens and smartphones showing the app receiving a lot of traffic.

According to BookMyShow, tickets for the two shows scheduled to be held at Mumbai’s DY Patil Sports Stadium on January 18 and 19, 2025 were to go on sale at 12 noon. Many said that tickets were not available for booking even after 12.15 pm.

According to the platform’s website, ticket prices range from Rs 2,500 to Rs 12,500, with Rs 35,000 for the lounge area.

The servers were restored in less than an hour and BookMyShow posted a message that there was “heavy traffic” on all accounts booking tickets, and the waiting list had reached 842,745 (data as of 1.39 pm on the BookMyShow website).

A message on the platform read, “Due to heavy traffic the queue is moving slower than expected. Thank you for your patience!”

Some helpful fans suggested others wait for the page to refresh.

One X user said: “If you’re in the queue for Coldplay tickets and it’s going slow, refresh your page. It will go faster #coldplay #bookmyshow (sic).”

Another claimed that other platforms were selling Coldplay tickets at higher prices.

One user said, “Dear @coldplay, fans in India are struggling to get tickets on @Bookmyshow_live which has a waiting list of over 300k but platforms like Viagogo (search coldplay india tickets on google, the first sponsored link will be VIAGOGO) are selling them at inflated prices. #coldplayindia #BookMyShow (sic).”

Another wrote, “Whenever Indians try to book tickets for Coldplay or any other major event on BookMyShow, it crashes again! #bookmyshow #coldplay (sic).”

One user poked fun at X, writing: “The BookMyShow server looks like this: Sir main kaam hi nahi karta kuch! #BookMyShow #Coldplay.”

This concert in Mumbai will be Coldplay’s first visit to India in eight years.

The Grammy-winning band previously performed in Mumbai as part of the Global Citizen Festival in 2016.

The “Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025” will kick off at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia on October 30 and conclude with a show at Wembley Stadium in London, UK on August 31, 2025.
