Sabarmati Report Review: Vikrant Massey does it again, presenting the Godhra train story with sensitivity and facts.

After ’12th Fail’, Filmfare Best Actor Critic 2023 winner Vikrant Massey is returning to the big screen with his film ‘The Sabarmati Report’. This film has been in headlines for a long time due to many reasons like change in director, delay in release date and reactions on the trailer. But now the film has hit the theaters, starring Ridhi Dogra and Rashi Khanna along with Vikrant Massey. With recent poor releases like ‘Singham Again’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiya 3’, ‘Sabarmati Report’ is different, better in terms of story, and gives viewers a glimpse of the innocents lost during one of the deadliest Indian riots. To think about life. Producer Ekta Kapoor and director Dheeraj Sarna’s ‘The Sabarmati Report’ claims to bring to the screen the story of a historical event in India, about which much has been written, read and heard, but is it all true? is The makers have tried to add a new dimension to this phenomenon. The film highlights the involvement of Indian media houses and the dilemma of its journalists.
the story
‘The Sabarmati Report’ revolves around the 2002 Godhra incident in Gujarat, where 59 innocent people lost their lives when the Sabarmati Express caught fire. The film follows a reporter to see if it was a tragic accident or a sinister conspiracy. However, those who are thinking that this film will have the same old story as the earlier films based on the Gujarat incident, then you might be wrong. The makers have taken a bold approach with the Sabarmati Express incident. The film also depicts the ideological conflict between Hindi-language journalists and the Western media, which makes ‘The Sabarmati Report’ even more interesting and original. Those interested in Indian history must watch this movie.
The story begins with the struggle to find out the truth about this train accident, which shows the struggle between truth and lies between Hindi-speaking journalist Samar Kumar (Vikrant Massey) and English journalist Manika Rajpurohit. But the real twist in the story comes when female journalist Amrita Gill (Raashi Khanna) enters and investigates the entire incident to give Samar’s failed attempt a new twist. Did Samar and Amrita succeed? For that you have to watch this movie.
acting
The acting of the actors in ‘The Sabarmati Report’ is commendable. Vikrant Massey, Rashi Khanna and Ridhi Dogra, who play the roles of journalists, have deepened the story with their acting. For an actor like Vikrant, who has done critical roles like ’12th Fail’, ‘Sector 36’ and ‘Death in the Gunj’, it gets even better with ‘The Sabarmati Report’. Her acting in this film is like water; It flows and has a calming effect. Rashi has added a certain charm to her character, while Ridhi has captivated everyone with her impressive acting. She has completely stepped into the boss lady character and does justice to it.
Writing and directing
Actor Dheeraj Sarna, who is seen in the role of Yash in Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms’ famous TV show Kutumb, has directed ‘The Sabarmati Report’. While the producers stuck to the findings of the Nanavati-Mehta Commission, Saran’s efforts lack experience; You can easily see the proof of this by watching some scenes of the movie. But overall his attempt to bring this serious issue to the screen has been good. Moreover, the flaws in the writing are adequately covered by the good acting and background score.
VFX techniques are used well in scenes like the train burning, but the cinematography looks a bit cold. As a producer, Ekta Kapoor has tried her best to entertain the audience for money in theatres, but the silent part of the film is its script. Also, the film seems to derail somewhat in the middle, as more than the Gujarat riots, The Sabarmati Report becomes a battle for supremacy between two leagues of journalists, but it won’t bore you at all. The role of these journalists can be called the focal point of the film.
conclusion
‘The Sabarmati Report’ is a film based on a true story, so it can be debated whether the film is authentic or not. But as Vikrant said in one of his interviews, viewing this film through a Hindu-Muslim or left-right wing prism is a shame to humanity. ‘Sabarmati Report’ not only pays tribute to the innocent people killed during the riots, but also remains interesting till the end as a medium of entertainment. This film is a must watch for those interested in Indian history and therefore, rightly, deserves 3 stars.
