Exclusive: Bryan Adams to perform in India for the sixth time: “The warmth of the Indian audience keeps me coming back”

Canadian rock legend Bryan Adams is all set to return to India this December with his much-awaited So Happy It Hurts Tour. The visit is his sixth visit to India after previous successful visits in 1993-1994, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2018. In an exclusive interview with NDTV’s Hardika Gupta, the legendary singer talks about his enduring connection with India, the creative process. Behind the impact of his music and his evergreen tracks.

When Bryan Adams was asked about the excitement of performing in India, he said, “The warmth of the Indian audiences is what keeps me coming back. The energy of every concert is unmatched.”

Adams has been at the forefront of global music for decades, and his ability to keep his music fresh remains a key part of his success. “I approach it by staying true to what I love about music while also finding new ways to make it relevant. The diversity of India, its rich culture, has played an important role in his creative development.” India’s cultural diversity continues to inspire me to evolve and connect with different audiences, making every performance special.”

Reflecting on her Indian fans, Adams talked about the unique energy they bring to her performances. “India’s diversity makes each concert unique. When I perform here, it’s all about embracing the local energy and connecting with the people on a deeper level.” His connect with his Indian fans goes beyond music, as he has always been influenced by the culture of the country. “The people, food and culture of India are what I love most. On every trip, I make sure to discover new places and enjoy the local cuisine.”

Adams’ iconic tracks, such as Summer of ’69 and Everything I Do (I Do It for You), have resonated with fans across generations. When asked what makes these songs stand the test of time, he attributed their enduring appeal to their universal themes. He said, “Songs like ‘Summer of ’69’ and Everything I Do have stood the test of time because they speak to universal emotions. They’re about love, youth and longing, things that never change, no matter what.” No matter what generation it is.”

As an artist, he acknowledged that his songs now have more emotional significance than when they first came out. He shared, “Playing these songs is a different experience now. The emotional weight of the songs is becoming deeper with time, and it’s incredible to see how these songs have become a part of so many people’s lives. “

Bryan Adams’ songwriting process has been remarkably consistent over the years. “I still write songs the same way I started – intuitively, based on feelings and moments,” he explains. For him, it’s always about “capturing that initial spark and letting the song develop naturally”.

Looking back at his remarkable career, Adams reflects on the songs that have defined his legacy. He said, “Reckless and Summer of 69 are probably the songs most associated with my legacy. They represent who I am as an artist.”

Despite an extensive career, Adams is open to new musical experiences. He concluded, “I’m always open to collaborating with new artists from different genres. There’s always room to experiment, and I’m excited about the future in terms of new sounds and collaborations.”

ICYDK, the 64-year-old singer will kick off his five-city tour on December 10, which will include Shillong, Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
