Snow White Trailer: Directed by Marc Webb and co-written by Greta Gerwig, the live-action film is adapted from Disney’s 1937 animated classic.
After playing Wonder Woman for so many years, Gal Gadot looks to be entering the era of her evil stepmother. The trailer for Marc Webb’s live-action adaptation of Disney’s classic princess tale, Snow White, shows Gal playing to the gallery as the sly evil queen. What’s in the trailer?
The trailer begins with Snow White (played by Rachel Ziegler) remembering that this was her father’s kingdom, but after his death, her stepmother, the Evil Queen, took the reins. The change of power sidelines Snow White. Furthermore, the Evil Queen’s magic mirror tells her that it is not she, but her stepdaughter, who is “the fairest of them all”, making the situation even worse for Snow White.
On a friendly tip, Snow White goes into the forest to escape the clutches of her wicked stepmother, where she encounters the seven dwarfs. She soon teams up with them to bring positive change to the forest. The trailer ends with the evil queen disguised as an old woman giving Snow White a poisoned apple.
Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen
While many internet users are lauding the casting of Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, many feel that she will not be able to match the tall order set by predecessors like Charlize Theron in Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman. “I mean that animation is more accurate than the Evil Queen. I agree they are great in their respective roles but we haven’t seen the full scope of Gal’s version yet. I know people don’t like her (which I completely understand) but it would be interesting to see her version,” one user defended the casting.
This is not the first time that Snow White is gaining popularity online. It also sparked discussion of casting Latina actor Rachel Zegler as the lead character, who was originally described as “white as snow”. The film also faced criticism for not casting dwarf actors as the Seven Dwarfs.
Snow White is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 21, 2025. It is co-written by Erin Cressida Wilson and Greta Gerwig, following the blockbuster success of her directorial debut Barbie last year.
