Yuvashree, a young amateur theater group from Bengaluru, started in 2007, is back with its recent popular play Ondu Vilaya KatheIn Ranga Shankara.
Written and directed by popular Kannada and English writer, director and actor Sharath Parvatavani, the play opened for audiences in April this year and will be in its eighth performance.

talking to The HinduSharath says that the play was initially part of a small performance which was later converted into a play. “In 2021, I was asked to direct a short piece for one of the supporting programs at the Ranga Shankara Theater Festival. I had read an article on death during that time and wanted to create something experimental using the Ranga Shankar ladder as levels in the play. I have always been fascinated by death. Coincidentally, when I was exploring such a topic, popular cinema actor Puneeth Rajkumar passed away a day before our show, and it added more intensity to the drama for us and the audience,” he explains. “Earlier this year, Yuvashree asked me to direct a play for her. I was set to direct the existing script, but the team urged me to do something new and interesting. I told them I had this piece, which eventually became a full play. “It was developed in two tracks, just like we are all between life and death,” says Sharath.
Sharath says that transforming a small piece into a full play was harder than writing an original short play. “To give it a context, having a separate track and not letting the audience learn until the end how the two tracks connect was challenging. It was difficult to talk about the same topic through different contexts,” he further said.
The play is open to children above ten years of age, and Sharath says that it is fundamental for children above ten years of age to understand what death is because they are very curious, and this helps them to protect their family or This will help in understanding the deaths happening nearby.
