As 2024 draws to a close, YouTube reveals the top trends, creators and moments that resonated across India on the video platform.
2024, the year of Diljit Dosanjh
In the field of entertainment, popular Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh ranked among the most trending topics this year. According to YouTube, videos containing the keyword “Diljit Dosanjh” or related to Diljit Dosanjh were viewed more than 3.9 billion times in India in 2024. It’s certainly not surprising considering the pop star’s sensational year.
Dosanjh’s year started with the release of the highly acclaimed film, amar singh brightIn which he portrayed the titular musician with flair and depth. In June, in a historic moment for Indian music on the global stage, Dosanjh made his first appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show, in which he gave a sensational performance that enthralled the audience.

This was of course just a day after the release of Prabhas’ fantastic track ‘Bhairav Anthem’. Kalki 2898 ADDosanjh appeared with the Telugu superstar in the music video, which has received over 16 million views on YouTube.

Another controversy erupted early last month when Dosanjh targeted the Telangana government during his Hyderabad concert. Before the concert, the government issued a notice banning songs promoting alcohol, drugs and violence from being sung at the event. During his performance, Dosanjh sang modified songs of his chartbusters “Lemonade” and “5 Tara” amid the applause of the crowd.
“If an artiste comes from outside the country, he can sing or do whatever he wants, there is no tension. But when your artist is coming home to perform, you have a problem, you create trouble. But I will tell you something. God is with me, I will not let it go,” Dosanjh was quoted as saying at the concert. At his Gujarat show – in which he avoided alcohol-themed songs in compliance with Gujarat’s dry state rules – Dosanjh said, “Wherever I have shows, declare a dry day, and I will abstain from alcohol-related songs. I will. It’s easy for me to change my songs.”
Nevertheless, 2024 has been a momentous year for Dosanjh, who has overcome cultural and linguistic barriers to become one of the most prominent South Asian artists on the global stage.

Another major topic that made headlines on YouTube this year was the star-studded wedding of Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Asia’s richest man, and Radhika Merchant, daughter of Indian pharma giants Viren and Shaila Merchant. In India, videos with the words “Ambani” and “Wedding” in the title were expected to receive more than 6.5 billion views in 2024, according to a YouTube report.

The month-long star-studded event was attended by celebrities from across the world, politicians, stalwarts of Hindi and South Indian cinema and almost all the top cricketers of the country.
Global celebrities like Kim Kardashian, her sister Khloe Kardashian, John Cena, Rema, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie and others made international appearances at the event.
Bollywood celebrities present at the event included Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Tiger Shroff and Varun Dhawan. The list of other popular Indian celebrities also includes cricketers from Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to yesteryear great Kris Srikkanth and latest sensations Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav.
The contingent from the south was led by Rajinikanth, Suriya, Jyothika, Ram Charan, Yash, Mahesh Babu, Rana Daggubati, Venkatesh Daggubati, Prithviraj, Atlee and Nayanthara.
