Aishwarya Rai’s “Queen” Moment Us jodha akbar Lehenga is on display in the Academy Museum

Amid rumors of separation from Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai has added another feather to her cap. Her iconic lehenga from Ashutosh Gowarikar’s 2008 epic Jodhaa Akbar has found a new home. And this is the prestigious Academy Museum.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the Academy announced that the wedding lehenga that Aishwarya wore when Jodha was getting married to Abkar in the film will be part of an exhibition at the Academy Museum.

Sharing a montage from the film, she wrote, “A lehenga fit for a queen.”

“Designed for the silver screen.” jodha akbar (2008), Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s red wedding lehenga is a feast for the eyes: vibrant zardosi embroidery, age-old craftsmanship, and a hidden gem – literally. Look carefully and you’ll see a peacock, the national bird of India, made entirely of jewels,” the post continued.

The Academy also credited fashion designer Neeta Lulla, who worked tirelessly to create the oeuvre d’art.

Appreciating her work, the post further read, “Neeta Lulla didn’t design costumes; she created a legacy. Step into history (and colour) at the Academy Museum’s Color in Motion exhibition.”

Fans were overjoyed to see such global recognition for the star and flooded the comments section with love and congratulatory messages.

One internet user wrote, “Being born in the West, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has always made me feel proud of my Southern heritage, and for that I will always be grateful!” While another wrote, “Glad to see that the Academy recognizes and appreciates excellence. Really happy to see this on display in the Academy Museum,” and another wrote, “Amazing tribute to the craftsmen and women of India.” The artistry of the jewelery designs is breathtaking and has no comparison in the world!

Becoming the first Indian costume to be displayed in the Academy Museum is a great achievement.

In an interview with The Print, Neeta Lulla reacted to the announcement, saying, “Digital platforms deserve credit for bringing renewed attention to work done before the digital age.”

“Indian craftsmanship has been appreciated for a long time. International designers have always bought embroideries and silk fabrics from India. The lack of recognition earlier was not because of the quality, but due to the absence of social media to amplify it. Now, even Jane is happy to see Z proudly celebrating Indian craftsmanship,” he added.

jodha akbar Hrithik Roshan is featured as Emperor Akbar and Aishwarya Rai as Queen Jodha. The film earned much praise not only for its lavish costumes and compelling performances, but also for AR Rahman’s soulful music.
