Adrien Brody says he has PTSD after extreme weight loss during The Pianist shoot: ‘I had an eating disorder…’

Adrien Brody played a Holocaust survivor in The Pianist, for which he received an Oscar for Best Actor.

Adrien Brody became the youngest person to win an Academy Award for Best Actor for The Pianist in 2002, when he was just 29 years old. In the Roman Polanski film, the actor played the role of Polish musician Władysław Szpilman, who miraculously survives the Holocaust. But to play this character, the actor had to lose a lot of weight, which affected his health. The actor remembered in a new Interview with VultureThat he developed PTSD after acting in the film. During the interview, Adrian said: “That was a physical transformation that was necessary to tell the story. But then that kind of opened me up, spiritually, to a depth of understanding of emptiness and hunger that I never knew existed. i do [have PTSD]Yes.”

He said, “I definitely had an eating disorder for at least a year. And then I was depressed for a year, if not the rest of my life. Who’s kidding, I’m kidding.”

The actor is now gearing up for the release of his next film, The Brutalist, for which he has been nominated for another Oscar. Directed by Brady Corbett, The Brutalist also stars Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacey Martin, Emma Laird, Isaac De Bankole and Alessandro Nivola. It has a duration of 215 minutes and had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where the film received a 12-minute standing ovation.

According to the official synopsis on the festival site, ‘The Brutalist’ narrates the journey of Laszlo Toth, a Hungarian-born Jewish architect who immigrated to the United States in 1947.
