‘Kadhalikka Neramillai’ movie review: Nithya Menen and Ravi Mohan are brilliant in a spontaneous romance that chooses moments over grandeur

‘God works in mysterious ways,’ he says, ‘and in a loving way too.’ While the romance genre in itself has flourished across all art forms, very few Tamil films have taken into account the intricacies of contemporary relationships and the many factors that make them work. The latest director to join the elusive list is Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi Kadhalikka Neramillai The brilliant pair of Nithya Menen and Ravi Mohan has acted in it.

In Kadhalikka NeramillaiShreya (Nithya) and Siddharth (Ravi Mohan) are two strange people with completely opposite belief systems, with only their recent heartbreaks and professions being the common factors between them. While fate brings them together, meeting-love leads to a dead end. When their paths cross years later, one is now a single parent while the other receives an unwanted visitor from his past. Whether they overcome their differences and come together remains to be seen Kadhalikka Neramillai,

Long gone are the times when external factors would double up as conflict in love stories. In today’s contemporary relationships, conflicts are internal and Kadhalikka Neramillai Captures these inner turmoils and emotional conflicts quite cleverly. Kiruthiga delves into several topics such as sperm banking, IVF, same-sex parenting, single parenting and voluntary childlessness without going into detail about them. In fact, it is this superficial behavior that prevents the film from being a well-rounded product. But Kiruthiga seems to have deliberately opted for a light-hearted outing rather than the full-on entertainer tag.

And it works, for the most part, thanks to the fantastic lead pair and the brilliant minds behind the camera. This is Nithya Menen and Ravi Mohan’s show and both have given their best performances in recent times. Nithya, in a role that could possibly be called Tara, a blend of her chic and urbane character okay Kanmani – Who is at the pinnacle of what can be defined as a modern relationship – and of Thiruchithambalam Playful Shobhana – who is so adorable that one cannot hate her even when she does mischief.

Kadhaalika Neramillai (Tamil)

Director: Kiruthiga Udayanidhi

Mould: Nithya Menen, Ravi Mohan, TJ Bhanu, John Kokken, Lal, Yogi Babu, Vinay Rai

Runtime: 142 minutes

Story: Two people with diametrically opposite ideas, commitments, and priorities develop feelings for each other

On the other hand, after several thrillers, Ravi feels fulfilled in the field that gave him career-defining turns in the early 2000s. It’s these two capable actors who make even the simplest scenes work – something the film is full of. Despite a lovely supporting cast, it is the lead pair who steal the show with their adorable charm. They portray it so well that you should not miss the secondary cast who disappear and reappear like clockwork.

Kadhalikka Neramillai This isn’t one of those movies that leaves much up for interpretation for the audience but leaves enough breadcrumbs that tempt us to read between the lines. In an intriguing scenario, Sid, to hide his real identity, writes his name as P James – the name of a famous magician from Chennai known for his famous guerrilla advertising campaign that was once omnipresent. Perhaps this is to show how ‘magical’ the concept of love itself is.

I also particularly enjoyed how the Chiefs’ professions are an extension of their personalities; Shreya is an architect who prefers to design her life rather than travel a lot on the road, while Sid is a structural engineer who emphasizes renewable construction and sustainable construction (which is part of his argument for not bringing life to this abandoned planet. is the basis). Unlike CV Sridhar’s 1964 iconic classic film of the same name, which involved a couple fooling a rich man, Kadhalikka Neramillai Its main characters are shown in complex situations, where the primary objective seems to be not to make fools of themselves. The complexity makes way for smaller, but important parts… like the scene where a character explains to a child how superheroes are made in a test tube.

Behind the scenes, AR Rahman becomes the savior of the film. His songs – in particular, ‘Yennai Izhukkuthadi’ which is used once as a montage song and then as an end-credits song – and the score, composed by Gavemik U. Arya’s aesthetic visuals, along with the visuals, reflect the mood and flavor that the film attempts to achieve. The biggest takeaway is that, despite introducing a world that only a specific segment of the audience can relate to, the film stays away from being preachy; The ease with which we experience a love story unfolding reflects the story of the film.

Calling it Kiruthiga’s best work to date is not a huge compliment considering he is only two feature films old. But the clear leaps in finesse she has to make with what she has to say are evident in this film. There may be some predictable sequences, which may also remind you of the titles good news And Miss Shetty Mr. PolishettyBut Kadhalikka Neramillai Goes against many tropes of romance, casually taking a dig at social norms. Despite its considerable shortcomings, Kadhalikka Neramillai is a sweet breath of fresh air that plays to its strengths and, in a way, symbolizes contemporary relationships.
