Akshay Kumar explains why he was not a part of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3: ‘I was fired’

The Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise has reached remarkable heights, with its second and third installments starring Kartik Aryan cementing their place as a huge success in the last four years. However, the franchise traces its roots back to the 2007 film directed by Priyadarshan, which starred Akshay Kumar as the iconic ghostbuster. In a recent interview, Akshay told why he was not a part of the next films.

Akshay says he was dropped from Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise

Akshay interacted with fans during the interview with Pinkvilla. A fan said that they skipped the second and third parts because Akshay was not involved in it. When asked why he didn’t play his role again, Akshay smiled and said, “Son, I was fired.” That’s it.”

Why is Akshay doing less comedy?

The fan also noted the notable change in Akshay’s filmography and questioned why the actor has cut down on comedy roles in the last decade. Responding in Hindi, Akshay said, “It is true. I have done less comedy. I have done a lot of social films, be it Sarfira (2024), Airlift (2016), Rustom (2016), Padman (2018), and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017). Because I wanted to do it. I have done many comedy films before. Every person has a mindset about what he wants to do at a given time. That’s why I wanted to do this. But now, I have signed about 2-3 comedy films on which I am filming, like Bhoot Bangla, Welcome (To the Jungle), and Housefull (5).

about the maze

The Bhool Bhulaiyaa series produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series began with the 2007 film starring Vidya Balan in the role of the unforgettable Manjulika. The sequel, releasing in 2022 and directed by Anees Bazmee, features Kartik Aryan as Rooh Baba, with Kiara Advani and Tabu playing twin sisters Manjulika and Anjulika. Vidya Balan returns to the franchise, with Kartik reprising his role from last year’s threequel. The cast also included Madhuri Dixit and Trupti Dimri in lead roles.

Meanwhile, Akshay has reunited with Priyadarshan for the upcoming horror-comedy Bhoot Bangla, which will release in theaters next year.
