In Run-up for International Women’s Day, Theater for Change will present a special version of its most acclaimed production When the rainbow is enough, Dress five powerful counter-stories through raw and personal stories of your actors.
From silent conflicts of post-portum depression to the challenges of life, from the flexibility of a quadrilateral navigate, each story throws light on the marginality approach that needs to occupy space in today’s conversation.
The drama is an Indian adaptation of KoropoM For colorful girls who have considered suicide / when there is rainbow In 1976, the Ephro-American Feminist was written by playwright and poet Nejac Shand. The play voiced the struggles of women addressing issues like racism, genderism, heartbreak and self-consciousness.
“We wanted to bring forward the counter-stories, because we have always been fed to the major legend, which becomes a story,” says Sujath Balakrishnan, the theater’s practitioner and founder of theater, Sujath Balakrishnan. “Counter-stories are stories on culturally tarnished topics that can range from mental health to living rapes and challenges faced by transgender.”
The main attraction of the play is that it is based on a set of individual monologues written by the actors. “This is not a scripted play, because no one can do a better story than a person who has experienced it. The medium of theater not only entertains, it also attachs conversation and inspires, ”says Sujath.
The drama will also be with an interactive session that will bring actors and audiences together to share their experiences. “It is not like a film that you see and get out after. We believe that when you watch the drama, there should be a conversation after that. Counter narratives should be heard and fought, otherwise they become another biased story. ,
Actor, voiceover artist and writer, Supriya Zambunathan, while speaking about her role in the play said, “The piece I am performing is how busy women are in various roles – mother, daughter, wife and wife and A lot of which we forget is really.
Supriya talked about working on a script, which was deeply individual. “When I write something that I have gone personally, I am able to tap in feelings that I pass, which has made my depiction on stage more authentic. Meditation is to tell my story, yet give the audience enough space to introspect about their lives. ,
Artist Lakshmi Sridhar spoke on her role, which throws light on her visit to live with Quadriplesia in the last 18 years. “Since this was going to be the first time I was sharing my story on stage, it was a challenge to capture everything within eight minutes in my script. The idea of being on stage with four magnificent women, who would also be sharing their stories, only added to my excitement. Production is not about telling people to tell their stories, but to invite everyone to present in a conversation that can make seed changes. ,
The Rotary District 3192 DEI team and Rotary Bangalore Skyway hosted, the play will be released on February 28 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Science Gallery, Hebbal. Admission fee.
