Kamada Ekadashi 2025: Date, Shub Murat, Importance, Vrat Katha, and rituals to seek the blessings of Lord Vishnu

Kamada Ekadashi Chirda is celebrated during the Shukla Paksha of the month. It is distinguished as the first Ekadashi after the Hindu New Year. Ekadashi is considered one of the most sacred days in Hinduism. A large number of devotees are involved in spiritual and religious activities. On this day, devotees fasting a strict fast and pay tribute to Lord Vishnu.

Ekadashi falls twice a month to Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. According to the Drink Panchang, during the month of Chaitra, Kamada Ekadashi is celebrated on Ekadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha. This year, Kamada Ekadashi is seen today April 8, 2025.

Kamada Ekadashi 2025: Date and Time

Here are auspicious dates and time according to Drik Panchang:

Ekadashi begins: April 7, 2025 at 08:00

Ekadashi ends: April 8, 2025 at 09:12 pm

Parana (fast braking) timing: Between April 9, 2025 06:03 and 08:31 pm

Dwadashi ends: April 9, 2025 at 10:55 pm

Importance of Kamada Ekadashi

The word Kamada means “the whole of desires.” It is believed that fasting and worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day provides freedom from karma debt, helps devotees to atone for previous sins, and fulfills hearty desires. This day gives special mention in the Padma Purana, where Lord Krishna has explained its importance to Yudhishthira.

Kamada Ekadashi Vrat Katha (The Story)

According to the Padma Purana, in the kingdom of Nagpura, ruled by King Pandarika, Lalit and his beloved Lalita lived, a Gandharva of an astronomical Apsara. One day, performing in the royal court, Lalit’s mind deviated from Lalita’s views, which influenced her singing. In court, a snake informed the king, who cursed Lalit to become a disgusting demon.

Unhappy, Lalita converted Lalit into the forest and sought help from the sage Shringi. The sage advised him to inspect a fast on Kamada Ekadashi. With unbreakable devotion, he completed the fast and prayed to Lord Vishnu, who blessed him and restored Lalit’s original form. Since then, the devotees inspect Kamada Ekadashi to seek divine blessings and to release from sorrow.

Kamada Ekadashi 2025: Pooja Ritual

1. Morning rituals: Wake up early, take a bath, wear clean clothes, and take a pledge to observe fasting with honesty.

2. Pooja Setup: Light a ghee lamp, install with a Sri Yanta with a idol or image of Lord Vishnu.

3. Offering: Current Tulsi Patra, Sweets and Mala. Prepare panchamrit (milk, yogurt, honey, sugar and ghee).

4. Main Puja: In the evening before sunset, perform Aarti, offer bhog (fruit, satvik item), and chanting Vishnu Sahasranama, Sri Hari Stotram and other mantras.

5. Bhog and Prasad: Distribute Satvik Bhog to the family and break fasting at Dwadashi morning (9 April).

6. Evening ceremony: Give light a lamp near the basil plant and pray for prosperity and welfare.

7. Temple visit: Go to Lord Vishnu or Krishna temples for darshan and blessings.
