Late actor Om Puri’s first wife Seema Kapoor (sister of actor Annu Kapoor) opened about her upset wedding, infidelity of Om Puri in an interview Siddharth KannanBaz Kapoor revealed that when she was pregnant, the film’s legend cheated her. After losing the child, Om Puri sent Rs 25000 through the secretary, which he refused to accept. Despite the cracks in the marriage, Seema did not want to divorce Om Puri, but things went beyond her control.
During the interview, Seema Kapoor met Om Puri and met Nandita Puri (a journalist) City of happiness. Many of his close friends knew about his relationship but kept him in darkness.
“Everything was going well after our marriage, but that film turned my life upside down … My good friend Renu Saluja, Tarihu Vinod Chopra’s first wife, knew about the relationship. But he and Sudhir Mishra and all others took it to a phase. He feels that he was normal after the film. He was just focusing on the film.”
There were no things in which he was painted in front of him and could understand Seema Kapoor with the voice of Om Puri. She was serious about the desire for divorce, while Seema wanted to save the marriage as she was pregnant then.
“I returned to Mumbai, and everything felt normal. He soon left the city for a shoot, and shifted through my belongings, I discovered the love letters. I was shattered. I never wanted to divorce her, despite the dizziness. I handled the things, because I was pregnant. She knew that I was pregnant.
Seema Kapoor could not tolerate emotional torture and decided to leave her home. She was three months pregnant: “But things became heavy; Puri Saheb used to drink too much, and Nandita used to make a scene. One night, I decided to leave. I was three months pregnant.”
When Annu Kapoor wanted to draw Om Puri to court, things reached a state. Seema Kapoor received Rs 6 lakh as alimony but denied Rs 25,000 that the actor was sent after the death of her child.
“Forget to console me. They sent Rs 25,000 through their secretary. I turned down it, and his secretary said to me,” This ego is what is destroying you. But what he thought was that ego was just self-respect, “said.
In 1993, Om Puri married journalist Nandita Puri and had a son named Ishan. Om Puri died in 2017. During his final years, he called Seema Kapoor and apologized.
