Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has to face legal action, as notice for notice for the issue of Surat court

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, whose recent remarks on Brahmins gave rise to widespread controversy, now facing more legal troubles. The Surat court has issued a notice, in which Kashyap needs to appear in court on 7 May. Failure to follow, the court has warned, it will result in legal action.

Additionally, the court has directed that a copy of the notice be sent to Kashyap’s residence, so that the legal results of its controversial statements can be increased.

The complainant, a lawyer, Kamlesh Rawal said that Kashyap will not be forgiven for his comments, a platform will be set up for a legal confrontation.

The complainant claims that this is not the first time the filmmaker has made controversial statements, especially about religious communities.

The complaint alleged that Kashyap has repeatedly tried to relieve religious tension, with a pre -commentary about Hindu society in 2020 and an alleged change with actor Anil Kapoor in 2024 also made a part of the case against him.

In the current case, about the censorship of Kashyap’s social media post film ‘Phule’, a biopic, further triggering a biopic on social reformer Jyotiro Phule.

The post accused of insulting the Brahmin community and provoking religious sentiments.

Although Kashyap later apologized, the complainant has made it clear that he is not ready to rest the case.

On April 16, 2025, Anurag Kashyap posted a response on social media that quickly increased into a significant controversy. In the post, he criticized the ongoing censorship of ‘Phule’ and commented that some interpreted as aggressive to the Brahmin community.

These comments had to withdraw from different sections of the society. Facing the increasing criticism, Kashyap issued a public apology, but the complainant emphasizes that this waiver is inadequate and Kashyap will have to face legal consequences for his actions.

In the subsequent Instagram post, Anurag Kashyap deeply regretted his comments, explaining that in a moment of anger, he responded to a comment “forgot his boundaries”.

He apologized for using an inappropriate language against the Brahmin community, a group that he admitted that many people respected and who had contributed positively to their lives.

“I talked badly about the entire Brahmin community. The community whose many people are in my life, are still there and contribute a lot. Today, all these are hurt by me. My family is hurt by me. Many intellectuals, whom I respect, is hurt by my anger and” Kashap asked for a heartfelt waiver, and ”

Kashyap vowed to work on his anger and ensured that such an incident would not happen again.

He promised to choose his words carefully in the future and urged the Brahmin community to direct his family to his family’s anger towards his family, not his family, who claimed that he was wrongly targeted by some of his critics.

“I will work if I do not let it be again. I will work on my anger. And if I want to discuss the issue, I will use the right words. I hope you will forgive me,” Kashyap said.

Despite his public apology, Kashyap’s trouble is over. Legal complaints continue, with the latest one filed by Anoop Shukla in Indore, accusing Kashyap of hurting the religious and social sentiments of the Brahmin community.

In her complaint, Shukla emphasized that Kashyap’s comment was not only aggressive, but also intended to shake hatred among various social groups in India.
