A motivali crew of children is jamming, molding on its improvised devices, while one of them reflects the 90s hit number ‘Azakia Laila’. Meet children’s band boxes from Thrissur, which produces music from scrap buckets, utensils, wood slabs, sticks, plastic water bottles and other everyday items.

Dabba Beat Today is a 17-member band, showing the show in Kerala and outside shows. The band has drivers and singers and tries everything from viral hits to melodious film songs. The band, a plus-two student and singer, 16-year-old, 16-year-old Adarsh Babu says, “This is the support of the people.” “We meet almost every other day to practice and we always try to do something that is new,” Adarsh says that whose favorite songs include ‘Thala’ Employment MumbaiJob Kurien’s ‘Padyathra’, and ‘crook’ from Vijay starrer-Leo. Adarsh also plays drums.
Whatever is especially about the music of the box beats, it is that it rebuilds complex rhythm from underdeveloped devices. Most of the drums have water compartments and paint buckets turn upside down. “We stick to the recycled rhythm and the band members do not hesitate to try some of the most challenging numbers on it,” says Indrajit.

Srihari KM, who plays the role of a wooden plank, says that he is proud to be part of the band. A class VI student, he has been playing for the band ever since it was formed. “Love for music binds us and we enjoy performing,” he says.
Although people have voluntarily worked to sponsor music instruments, they stick to their identity of being a scrap band. However, keyboard and violin are added to their performance list for performance.
