When someone gets hurt, and catch a sense of injustice, how do you navigate the shifting currents between forgiveness and revenge? Is it to forgive, or is it only easy? Is there a virtuous work in search of justice, or is there a self-established cycle of violence? Are we all just changed and moving endlessly in the continuity of forgiveness? Aunty Moxi’s heart defeated these questions, Delulu, a bold new performance is written, directed, and performed by Ashika Salvan.

The play premiered on 27 April for a receptive audience in Puducherry with the support of the theater fellowship of Edishkat Laboratory.
With irreversible creativity, Ashiqa weaves a world where ancient forces and everyday eccentricity are found: the fierce Greek goddess of vengeance, Nemasis; Quiet, sad river Goddess Ganga; And eccentric, unexpected aunt Moxi who lives with ‘Meau’, her laser-chasing cat. Their entangled stories resonate in internal warflaces, when we all encounter betrayal, injustice and pain.

The performance of Ashiqa is characteristic of a vibrant, physical style, which channels energy through movement through words. Live jazz vocals thread through action, giving the performance an emotional texture that turns into mischievous to sadness.
Mausi Moxi is absurd and deep, innocent and intelligent, humor and tragic. As we see, its vignts are woven together with the sections of the Ganges and Nemesis, we are reminded of the conflicting pulling within all of us: to recover the dignity through action, and equally strong to forgive, to find the release from the corrosive grip of anger.
Hard question

‘Delulu’ – Slang for “confusion”, becomes a irony key for pieces. Perhaps, Ashiqa suggests, to really forgive, or to believe in pure justice, there is a kind of confusion in itself. Nevertheless, perhaps, contradictory, it is exactly the “confusion” that keeps us moving, dreams and looks for a different future from the past.
With her sharp humor, emotional vulnerability and mythological resonance, Aunty is Moxi, not in response to the audience, but invites in a deep place, who harasss both individual and collective souls, struggles with questions.
Ashiqa’s first single drama is ready to start its journey in the theater circuit, which brings its stimulating themes to audiences across India.
