Many do not remember that before Raveena Tandon lit the screen in ‘Mohra’, it was Divya Bharti, which was originally cast in the film. He started making a film with Sunil Shetty, but his sudden and tragic death reduced the journey. In a recent interview with Radio Nasha, Sunil recalled those brief days with Divya, who praised her bold personality and natural talent. Ravena stepped into the role due to her passing, and ‘Mohra’ will become a defined film in the 1990s.

Sunil filmed his time with Divya in Pahgam Jail. He said, “We shot in Pahgam Jail, but that girl was fearless. She was real guilty in jail, yet she was absolutely fearless. Again, she was full of life and fun. Toh kahin na kahin rajiv kos hum satane, shabir ko hum kiz sacta sactke, Rajeev and Shabir- This was always our plan and how we had to lighten the atmosphere.

Divya Bharti, the top star of her time with films like ‘Deewana’ and ‘Shola and Shabnam’, died at the age of just 19 after the fall from her Mumbai apartment.

Sunil Shetty made her Bollywood debut with ‘Balwan’, where she shared screen space with the late Divya Bharti. Later, ‘Mohra’, starring Rajiv Rai, instigated him for fame.
