Kannada and Karnataka Culture Minister, Shivraj Tangdgi, said on Friday that actor Kamal Haasan’s films will be “banned” in the state, as decided by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), if he does not apologize for his comment about Kannada language.
Meanwhile, KFCC President M.K. Narasimalu said that exhibitors and distributors themselves have decided not to screen their film voluntarily if they do not apologize.
KFCC said on Thursday that it would not allow the release of Kamal Haasan’s film thug Life In Karnataka, until he releases a public apology until his controversial comments about the Kannada language.
The recent statement by actor-consign him, claimed that “Kannada was born out of Tamil” during a promotional program for his upcoming film, has expressed widespread resentment among the pro-Canadian groups and cultural organizations.
“I have written a letter. After that, the Film Chamber of Commerce has also taken a good decision and held a press meeting, stating that if he does not apologize in two days, his film will be banned. I praise myself as Kannada and Culture Minister for Film Chamber of Commerce.”
Talking to reporters here, he said that despite how big the person is, against whom – Kannada, Kannadigas and Karnataka land and water – it will not be tolerated. Kamal Haasan has to apologize, if the film is not decided by the Chamber of Commerce, his films will be banned.
He said, “We will not allow it, if he does not apologize. He should apologize. No light remarks against Kannada will be tolerated. If he does not apologize, we will take our decision,” he said.
Asked if his films would be banned in case of not being forgiven, Tanggi replied, “Yes”. Responding to a question on actor Shivrajkumar’s response to the controversy, the minister said that he has asked Kannada Star to talk about it with Kamal Haasan.

“I talked to Shivrajkumar about this when we shared the stage at an event. Dr. Rajkumar (Shivajkumar’s father and Kannada TheSpian) and the family have done a lot of work for Kannada reason, similarly Kannadiga has also nurtured him. Shivrajkumar or another senior actor talk to him,” he said.
