Nausheen Ali Sardar Made her sensational debut with Kkusum – Ekta Kapoor’s show supported by Balaji Telefilm. She started in 2009 with her Bollywood debut with Three: Love, Lies, Betel. She is now seen in Vasudha, where she plays the role of Chandrika Singh Chauhan – a woman was both revered and frightened. As an incredibly layered and powerful character Chandrika, Nausheen shared an insight on his journey with Vasudha, the development of Indian television and his personal growth as an actor.
Q. Kkusum made you a domestic name in the early 2000s. What has changed in the TV industry since then?
Television has increased and changed in so many ways. Emotional new talent is an influx of talents, and has become more diverse and layered than storytelling. The speed is sharp, expectations are high, and the style of working is constantly developing. However, what has not changed is a deep emotional relationship that creates Indian television – especially through stories centered around strong, flexible women. These narratives have a timeless quality. As is someone who has seen the industry in and out, I believe that it is incredibly powerful when it is operated with moderate heart and intentions. I am optimistic about where it is and hope that we continue to improve both on-screen and curtains.
Q. What do you think more satisfactory today – TV, movies or OTT?
I have the privilege of working in television and films and Balaji has also detected the OTT space with a special appearance in the show. This was a unique experience – one that really pushed me out of my rest field, as for the first time in my career, I was asked to use derogatory language. I do not abuse either in real life, so it was really challenging – both as an actor and as an individual. Believe it or not, I struggled through around 50 and still could not bring myself to say this. It is not just who I am. It was one of the moments that actually tested my boundaries. He said, I admire the kind of powerful story that is emerging on the OTT platforms. Very creative freedom and depth, and I would like to be a part of a meaningful project in that place someday. This is definitely on my bucket list.
Q. You had earlier shown in music video but not anymore. Is this intentionally?
I have enjoyed being a part of music videos in the past – they were creatively refreshed and allowed me to detect a different side of the performance. But at the moment, my schedule with Vasudha captures me completely. He said, I am always open to exciting occasions when the time is right, and the project is creatively completed.
Q. What are you keeping busy these days? Tell us more about your experience of working on Vasudha?
Vasudha has just immersed me completely! The episodes broadcast seven days a week and each one running 36 to 38 minutes, the schedule is intense – but also incredibly rewarded. When you are part of a project, you really believe, it is all worth it. The team is fantastic, energy on the set is always excited, and we are working together to make everything meaningful.
My days are quite packed, and even on rare days, I focus on recharging. I am a very big film buff and total film enthusiast – hardly a night that goes without seeing anything. My evening is now about the ground rituals-spending time with my family, cuddling with my pets, and some very important comfort curved down. This is a different speed, but one I have come to cherish.
Q5. Do you want to talk about any upcoming projects?
At the moment, I am completely focused on Vasudha. I get offers for other television projects, but I have always preferred to be committed to a project at a time, especially with daily soap. As long as it has a cameo or nothing in the fantasy or historical style, I usually do not play an additional role while actively working on a show.
I never tried to spread myself very thin or balance two full -time roles. For me, it has always been about quality more than quantity – almost immersing myself in the character I am painting. Right now, I am enjoying my journey with Vasudha, and I want to give it everything I have got. I really believe in honesty, focusing and doing complete justice for every role.
