Remembering Punyaso singer Tanjor S. Kalyanraman

To conclude Karnataka music, Tanjor S. Kalyanraman was many things – a virtuous singer, visionary musician and a bold innovator. Skr, as he is widely known, was a brilliant disciple of the mythical GN Balasubramaniam. His most unique contribution to the Karnataka canon was the construction of 36 two-Madhya Pradesh Panchama-Vairaja Melus-which was derived from which except the fifth and appointing both Shuda and Madhyama in Tandam. He not only sought these ragas, revolutionary and behavior in theory, but also gave some of them through his compositions. This was his hot talent.

On his 95th birth anniversary, Madhurdhwani paid tribute to SKR with a memorial program at the Arke Convention Center. Nagai R in the evening. A violin concert was also shown by Muralitharan, which is Shrimushum V on Miridangam. Raja Rao and Kanjira were with KV Gopalakrishnan. On this occasion, Cleveland Sundaram and Joshi Kalyanraman (wife of singer) were present among other dignitaries.

Born on 2 June 1930 in Thiruvengdu near Mayavaram, Kalyanraman belonged to the dynasty of scholars – Komal Muthu Bhagavathar (great grandfather) and Madhirimangalam Natsa Iyer (Grand Chacha). While his father N. Srinivasa Iyer started him in art, musician Kittmani Iyer played an important role in bringing him to GNB’s protection, shared Muralitharan, quoting family sources.

Muralitharan recalled his first concert with SKR in George Town, Madras in 1970. His guru RS Gopalakrishnan requested that his student be allowed to go with Mastro with himself. The occasion blossomed in a funded association. “People often associate SKR with Vivadhi ragas because they sang them with cleverness,” he said, “he said,” but his singing of mainstream ragas was equally compelling. ” He quoted SKR’s little as an object lesson in raga development and breath control, which exposes the grandeur of TN Rajarathanam Pillai’s music, and a record of SKR’s little and Arabic Alapnas, which survives the memories to the audience.

In the list of those coming with SKR, Karnataka is read as a roll call of royalty – Lalguri Jayaraman, TN Krishnan, Ms. Gopalakrishnan, M. Chandrasekaran, Palghat Mani Iyer, CS Murugabhopath, Umayipuram. Muralitharan was added to Sivraman, Palghat Aiswaran, Raja Rao, and more – the honor in which he was held.

Raja Rao missed the love of the scurrence of the scurrence for scooters, cars, gadgets and surround sound set-ups before they became a common. It was SKR, reminding him, who made the Kyanagraj work ‘Anta Mudo’ to be smooth and popular in the first Bindumalini. Raja Rao said that once, in his review, in his review, SKR’s Sangatis were dropped below a plentiful cascade of flowers, when the branches of the tree are shaken.

Sundaram, through his sister, reflected his 18 -year -long association with SKR, who was his students. “SKR faced many challenges in his personal life. Joshi was a pillar of support and important role in many of his achievements. He was incredibly working hard. It was a frequent incident that he would take the same raga and Kriti for four hours and mostly MSG and Karikudi were not in Mani’s company. It was not in the company of MSG and Karikudi Mani. Sadly but I left a permanent impression but left a permanent impression:”Uzikka Kathundan Thawira Nan Pizikka Katukkala “”I learned to work hard, but how to live life).

SKR was incredible in search of perfection, Sundaram said. “Once, I gave him a recording of my concert. The next day, he wiped it out with Pallavi, saying that it did not come out well. I argued that it was fine. He replied,” If it’s your good music idea, and you are promoting it, God saves music! ” This, he said, about his own music, which is rare to come. ,

Sundaram said how KV SKR took six months break on Narayanaswamy’s advice Sadhakam To regain his voice. This was his discipline and respect for colleagues. Once innovator, SKR also performed a whistle concert – “A flute concert without a flute” – with Raja Rao in America

Music was his life; Nevertheless, Manyata often removed her. The Kalamani Award came only on the eve of his death – he died on 9 January 1994.

In the evening, then Muralitharan included a violin repetition – an offer that echoed with the spirit of SKR. His disciple D. Aided by Badrinarayanan, Muralitharan opened with Papanasam Shivan’s ‘Tatwamaria Taram’ (Retigovla), followed by Tyagaraja’s ‘Tolizanmuna Jayu’ (Bilhari). Nevetimati and Vagadevari – Two Vivadhi Ragas was detected with love – through love, through the ‘Mohankar Muthukumara’ of the former Kotavera Iyer, and later in Tyagaraja’s ‘Paramadmudu Veliga’. The Tani Avatar, characterized by Raja Rao and Gopalakrishnan, shone with a lively and absorbed rhythmic interplay. SKR’s own Darbari Kanada Thilana in Mishra Chapu served as a fitting signature from the master himself.
