New Delhi: Actor Ram Kapoor has extensively criticized after a series of sexual inappropriate and derogatory comments made during a promotional program for his upcoming web series Mistry.
The incident allegedly occurred during a media interaction session organized by the streaming platform behind the show.
According to media reports, Kapoor made insensitive remarks about the clothes of some female officers on the stage. In a particularly disturbing moment, he allegedly compared a hectic interview program to “gang rape”, a comment made in the presence of a journalist that was assisting him with a microphone.
The comment has revolted equally from the professionals and audiences of the industry. In response to the controversy, Kapoor has admitted to comment. Talking to The Times of India, the experienced actor said, “Start me by saying that everything I have said is everything, I have said this. So, the fact that I am guilty as an charge.”
Kapoor tried to convince his behavior that he is more expressive around those with whom he feels comfortable. “Everyone who knows me and who has worked with me, knows how I am and I don’t mean being aggressive,” he said, saying that he had no inconvenience from the people present at that time. “We were laughing and joking. If I fulfilled that they were angry, I would immediately deal with it,”
She also tried to justify her comment about a female executive dress, calling it “distraction”. “If I thought it was inappropriate, then why would I open it openly in the hall full of media people?” He asked. “My character has been questioned for the first time in 25 years, so accept my justification.”
Accepting the backlash, Kapoor continued, “Now, I am aware of some things that I was not that day. I can’t be my unpleasant normal self,” he said.
He said, “The comments I made came from a harmless place, but the line below is that the team members who are half my age, got angry, and it is not acceptable.”
Kapoor concluded his intention to apologize to those people personally. “Not only my fans, I have my son who looks at me and learns from me. I do not blame him for taking this stance, because yes, it will teach me a lesson. I respect his decision, and I am going to apologize to each of the members of the team who were angry at a personal level that day,” he said.
As the controversy comes out, the streaming platform has not yet issued an official statement on the case.
