Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Basu says that his growth as a storyteller reflects the development that he has seen in his personal life, where women have been a major source of inspiration.
In a career for over two decades, Basu has established himself as a versatile director, searching for various stories for deep moving stories ranging from the erotic thriller “murder” and romantic crime drama “gangster” to “Barfi”. And a contingent of anthology artists such as “kite”, and even “Life in a … Metro” and “Ludo”.
“Movies reflect the stage you are passing in your life. Initially, when I was younger, my films were a bit erotic.
He said, “I take inspiration from everyone from all women of my life, such as women who raised me, who loved me, and who had put me out. So, all stories came from there,” she said.
Basu received significant praise for his 2007 film “Life in a … Metro”, searching for stories of love, ambition and heartbreak in Mumbai’s fast -book urban landscape.
He is now coming out with the film’s follow-up “metro … in dino”, which follows the bitwatch relations of four couples in four different cities.
The director said that when he created “Life in a … Metro”, he thought it as a standalone film because he had no story for the follower.
He said, “While making ‘Ludo’, this idea came to me. Earlier, I tried once or twice to write the film, but it did not happen. But this time, it came together.”
“Metro … in dino” is part of Basu’s hyperlink trilogy, which began in 2007 with “Life in a … Metro” and continued in 2020 with “Ludo”. All three films together weave interrelated stories that increase the diversity of love.
The 55-year-old director said, “Now the trilogy is over, and I don’t want to do it again. I don’t want to do a hyperlink film. I don’t want to do it for the next 2-3 films.”
Basu said that writing interlink stories is a big challenge, the shooting of the film was very funny.
“We have to write four stories, which are equivalent to writing four films. Viewers will watch it from the point of view of four stories. For me, it is a film, and it should be a graph of up and down and all. In ‘Ludo’, you felt as if you were watching a film.
“This old ‘metro was the same case with the film. Therefore, it is a little difficult to achieve that ease. You don’t want to be lost in four stories, and want to root for all characters and investing in all characters at the same time is a very difficult task,” he said.
“Metro … in dino” stars Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkana Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and a star-stad cast of Sara Ali Khan.
For Basu, he “Jackpot Ko Mara” with the star cast of the film.
“All my first options said yes. I was lucky because there was no option. So, it was a dream cast. If it was not there, I don’t know what I would have done. Now, when I watch the film, I can’t see someone else playing my character as he has played,” he said.
Basu has already started working on his next, a music romantic drama, which was initially given the title “Aashiqui 3”. The film, which features Karthik Aryan and South sensation Serela, is designed for its dramatic release on Diwali.
“I don’t know if it is being called ‘Aashiqui 3’. There was a story that I was making, and I did not write a story for ‘Aashiqui 3’. I was going to make this film, no matter what the title was. So far, I don’t know what the title will be. Now it would be right to say.”
Basu is equally thrilled about his long -funded project: a biopic on the legend Kishore Kumar, which he declared a decade ago. The reports claimed that superstar Aamir Khan would join the film but Basu refused to comment on speculation.
“I have started work at full pace on it. I will start it soon (filming). Writing work and everything has happened, everything has happened,” Basu said.
“Metro … In Dino” is set for release in theaters on 4 July.
