Indian singer Arijit Singh has carried forward global pop star Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran to emerge as the following artists on music streaming platform Spotify with 151 million followers.
One of the largest names in the pop music circuit, American singer Swift, is second with 139.6 million followers and Britain’s Sheeran, who has recently come out with its Indo-Set track “Neelam”, according to the list released by data tracking websites, at number three with 121 million. With 114 million followers, Billy is fourth in the Ellish list. The Weekend, whose real name is Abel Tesafay, is at number five with 107.3 million followers. The top 10 also include Ariana Grande (105.9 million), Eminem (101.7 million), Drake (99.7 million), Bad Banni (97.3 million) and Justin Bieber (83.1 million).
Other Indians who are in the list are – AR Rahman (14 with 65.6 million), Pritam (21 with 21.4 million), and Neha Kakkar (25 with 48.5 million).
Late music legends Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar have made the list in the list at 100th and 144th places with 22 million and 16 million followers respectively. The monthly count of the audience, however, throws a different picture.
Although Spotify does not come up with data about followers of musicians themselves, streaming service shows the number of listeners of every artist on its stage.
Arijit’s listeners count is 47.4 million every month, while Swift listeners are 82.3 million. Sheeran and Eileish have 98.4 million and 95.1 million monthly listeners respectively. The weekend has 112.2 million listeners.
The audience and followers represent two separately equal aspects of an artist’s audience yet.
Listeners refer to individuals who stream the music of an artist within a specific time limit, reflecting the access and popularity of music during that period. Conversely, followers are users who actively choose to follow the artist’s profile, which according to Spotify for the artist website, indicate a deep level of engagement and interest in staying updated with their future release.
Arijit’s rise in the Indian music industry is nothing short of a meteorite. The 38 -year -old started in 2005 as a contestant on the reality show “Fame Gurukul”, but eight years later in the big league in 2013, “Ashiki 2” to “Ashiki 2” broke the intimate hit “tumor hi ho” from “Ashiki 2”.
The success of the song made him a domestic name. After that, Arijit quickly became a voice of many moods, whether it is love, heartbreak or happiness.
Over the years, he has given a string of chartbasters including “Channa Meria”, “Rabta”, “Kesariya”, “again Lai Lai Dil” and “Ae Dil Hai Mukkil”.
