Mohali: ‘Udaipur files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder’ producer Amit Jani expressed his disappointment over the Delhi High Court’s decision and said that he had gone to the Supreme Court to challenge the decision.
In a conversation with Annie, he said, “The Supreme Court has appealed to the Faisal of the Hamne High Court.
He said, “We have appealed to the Supreme Court against the decision of the High Court, because we are not satisfied with this. We had appealed to the High Court to watch the film … Justice said that he would watch, but he saw a film unlocked only to a jury or audience.
“This cannot be shown to anyone randomly; however, we followed HC’s decision … The court only heard what Kapil Sibal said. He is Madni’s lawyer … We asked the court to come to the screening. He did not see and hear what Kapil Sibal was saying.
He further said that Kanhaiya Lal was killed in front of the camera three years ago. To date, there is no decision in this matter.
“It has been three years since Kanhaiya Lal’s murder. What did his family get from the court? The killers were granted bail, but the family did not get anything. But it was decided within three days whether the film would be released or not … If he had taken such a quick decision for Kanhaiya Lal, we do not need to make this film. We do not need to make this film. A madrasa will say … We will go to the Supreme Court …” We will go … ”
‘Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder’, the pilgrimage of Bharat shared, “When you make non-fiction films, there are controversies. Because a particular community feels that there are some things in this film, but the censor board has not allowed anything to do.
“… Kapil Sibal saw the entire film … During the hearing, he (Kapil Sibal) made false statements in relation to the film … Our film is already approved by CBFC …” the director said.
He shared, “I am saying that this is not a film. It is not for entertainment. The film is for justice. And the central government has come in it. So, of course, I believe in Modi ji. Modi ji is possible with it.”
The Delhi High Court ordered the release of the film yesterday. Until the Central Government takes the decision of the Central Government on the amendment application filed by the Central Film Certification Board (CBFC), it will be effective.
A division bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Anish Dayal passed the interim order listening to two petitions, challenging the CBFC’s decision to certify the film by a Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and another journalist Prashant Tandon.
The petitioners argued that the film’s release could disturb communal harmony and pose a serious threat to public orders, given the sensitive nature of the subject. The court noticed that since the petitioners were re -charged to implement the amendment measure under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, the release of the film should remain until a decision is made on their application for interim relief.
The bench said, “We provide that until the grant of interim relief is fixed, the film will have to stop when the film is released.”
‘Udaipur files’ is based on the murder of Kanhaiya Lal of 2022, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan, who was widely killed by two people, who were allegedly angry with a social media post in support of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma by two people.
The incident triggered national outrage and raised serious concerns about radical and communal violence.
The petitioners said that the film explains the incident and can further instigate tension. He also expressed concern over the upcoming elections in many states, on the time of release.
The court, while not going into the merits of the film, said the legal process should be followed to challenge the CBFC certification and ensure that there is no irreparable damage in the interim.
