‘Mrs. And Mr. ‘Movie: Ilaiyaraja’s name was removed from all promotional materials, Vanitha Film Productions Madras High Court tells

Music composer R. Llaiyaraaja’s name has been removed from all the promotional materials related to the film ‘Mrs.’. And Mr., ‘Vanitha Film Productions told the Madras High Court on Wednesday (July 23, 2025), which according to a civil suit filed by him, to prevent the production house from exploiting his personality rights to promote the film.

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamurthy recorded the submissions made by lawyer Sridhar Murthy for the producer, that the musician’s name was removed on Instagram as well as other platforms. Earlier, Mr. Ilaiyaraja’s lawyer A. Saravanan said that his customer’s name is used for wrong bayani.

It was brought in the notice of the court that Mr. Ilaiyaraja was not a musician of ‘Mrs.’ and Mr. ‘, however, the producers used a song composed by him for another film and printed their name in the promotional material, there was an impression that there was an impression that he was his musician, said the lawyer.

In his civil suit, Mr. Ilaiyaraja also sought a direction for Vanitha Film Productions to remove the song ‘Shivarathari’, which he had prepared for the 1990 Kamal Haasan-Starr. Michael Madana Cama RajanFrom the film Mrs and SriWhich was released on 11 July 2025.

In addition, he also sought a permanent prohibition, stopping the production firm from exploiting his personality rights for promotion of the film and sought a direction for the production house to disclose profits and benefits from exploitation of such rights.

With the suit, the composer filed two applications seeking interim relief. One of the applications was for an interim direction to remove ‘Shivarathari’ Mrs and Sri And for an interim direction, not selling, distributing, screen, performance, or filming the film with songs.

After filing a counter affidavit for interim relief applications, Mr. Murthi told the court that Mr. Ilaiyaraja had wrongly mentioned Ms. Vanita Vijaykumar as the producer of the film as the producer of the film, although the pracharak content clearly mentioned clearly to be a producer.

Therefore, he said, the composer must file an application to amend the causetitle. He also said that Sony Music Entertainment would also have to be included as one of the defenders of the suit as that music company was entrusted with the rights of the song ‘Shivaratiri’.

Focusing on his submission, the judge gave time to the musician by 18 August and to revise a new defendant and to file the necessary applications including a new defendant.
