Saif Ali Khan stabbing case

Mumbai: Mumbai Police has opposed the bail application of Bangladeshi National, which has been identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam, who allegedly stabbed Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence in January this year.

The police claimed that they have concrete evidence against the accused and therefore appealed to the court not to bail him. The police informed the court that the knife used in the attack and the pieces recovered from the accused were the same.

Referring to the Forensic Science Laboratory Report, the police reiterated their claim that a piece of knife found near the actor’s spine and a piece of knife found in the scene matches the weapon recovered from the accused.

In his written response to the accused’s petition, the police said that these three pieces were of the same knife used to attack Saif.

The police informed in his response that, if the Bangladeshi national living in India is being granted bail, the accused is likely to escape from the country and not appear in the court during the trial.

The police argued that the crime committed by the accused is’ of very serious nature and there is concrete evidence against him.

The accused had filed a bail application, claiming that the case against him is a ‘fabricated story’.

He said in a statement, “The current FIR is nothing but a fictional story of the complainant. Therefore, the accused is demanding bail”.

The bail argument filed through Advocate Vipul Dashing claims that the accused is innocent and has no previous criminal record.

The plea also mentions that important evidence, such as CCTV footage and call records, is already with prosecution, and there is no danger of tampering with evidence or affecting witnesses.

The accused is currently registered at Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.

The investigation of the stabbing phenomenon is moving towards a conclusion, only to file the charge sheet.

The next hearing on the bail application is scheduled for August 1.
