Kerala Film Policy Conclave begins in Thiruvananthapuram

Film celebrities, ministers, policy makers and representatives of every organization and department related to Malayalam cinema came together in the capital on Saturday (August 2, 2025) for the two -day Kerala Film Policy Competition, which was aimed at formulating a comprehensive policy for the industry.

Inaugurating the Conclave, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Kerala, which is a model for other states in various regions, can also serve a model through a film policy that will aid in all round development and improvement of the Malayalam film industry.

In a speech in which the CM spoke about making socially relevant films from his early stage about the early history of Malayalam cinema, while other industries were focusing on mythological films, he also attacked to choose the film The Kerala Story for two awards in the National Film Award Jury. He asked the film community to unite to tarnish the state using cinema along with the citizen society of the state.

“The National Award for Kerala’s story can only be seen as a celebration of cultural corruption that misuses films as a means of spreading communal hatred. It is unfortunate that a film that insults the secular tradition of Kerala and honors Kerala in a defamation manner. Communalism.

He said that it is necessary to modernize and expand Malayalam cinema, which is associated with our socio-economic sector, being in the sink over time. “The conclave will be a step towards that.”

“Now there are many organizations in the film industry. Naturally, there will be a sense of competition between them. Everyone needs to work towards keeping their ego separate and solving problems with awareness that the organizations are only present when the industry will survive. I hope that the Conclave will be an open platform to discuss new ideas, ideas and suggestions.” The CM also took care against films as well as films, which glorifies drugs and alcohols in cinema.

Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian said that Conclave could pave the way for Kerala to become the most suited state in the country, enabling infrastructure and auxiliary mechanisms. All possible suggestions from the conclave that can be accepted will include the film policy, while there will be further discussion on disagreement to come to a general point. He said, “The government is planning to organize Kerala film Mart every two years, being modeling on Kerala Travel Mart.”

He said, “This conclave started with a memorandum that some women film celebrities presented the Chief Minister a few years ago, on the basis of which the HEMA committee was formed. The report of the committee also led the suggestion that the Adoor Goipalakrishnan and others also led it,” he said.

Actor Mohanlal, who was one of the main guests, hoped that the conclave and policy industry would become more democratic, and bring more people into the film manufacturing process, as well as providing a new sense of direction to the entire film production ecosystem. Another chief guest actor and filmmaker Suhasini said that Kerala film Conclave would become a model for all other states.

Later, the Chief Minister made the filmmaker and KR Narayanan Institute of Visual Science and Arts Saeed Akhtar Mirza, filmmaker Wetrimaran, Sound designer Rejul Pookutty and lyricist and lyricist and poet Kathpram Damodaran Nambothiri.
