Grammy-winning country veteran Jenny Celly, dies at 85

Los Angeles: Jenny Celly, a Grammy-enthusiast country singer and a long-time Grand Ole Opri member, died at the age of 85.


The singer died on Friday in Nashville due to complications from intestinal infection, Hollywood reporter said.


Celly was the most known for her 1966 hit “Dont Touch Me”, written by Hank Kochran. The song gave her a Grammy Award for the outstanding performance of the best female country and marked the beginning of her successful music career. He later received two more Grammy nominations.


In 1967, Sili Grand became a member of Ole Opri. She was a regular host and first woman in the MC segment on the Opri stage. She performed more than 5,000 times there, and became one of the most frequent artists in her history.


Born on 6 July 1940 in Titasville, Pennsylvania, Sili showed interest in music from an early age and appeared on local radio and TV. After working briefly in banking, she moves to music and moved to Nashville after signing with Challenge Records.


According to Thr, his first single with the memorial record, “Donte Touch Me” reached the number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and at number 85 at Hot 100. Over the years, he had more than 25 solo on the country’s chart, including “Canye Sleep in Your Arms” and “Lucky Ladies”.


Sili also wrote songs for other artists, including Peron Young’s “Levin” and Syine “Goodbye. “He often performed with Jack Green in the late 1960s and in the early 1970s, reaching the country chart on the country chart with his doubles” Kash I Kash Eye Not Z You Miss You “.

Dolly Parton, a long time friend, took to his Instagram account and wrote, “I know Jenny Celly since we were in a hurry in Nashville. She was one of my cutest friends. I think she was one of the greatest singers in Nashville, and she was a brilliant laughter. We were together with many amazing laughter, and she scored together.”

Sili’s husband, Jean Ward, died in December 2023 after a fight with cancer.
