Mumbai: Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Sheller said on Friday that the state government worked fast after receiving complaints that Marathi film “Khalid’s Shivaji” spreads “lies” and damages public emotions, and re -examined its sensor certification.
He also said that the film is facing opposition from right -wing groups to clarify the legacy of Maratha Raja Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, will be removed from Cannes Film Festival listing.
On August 6, Maharashtra Culture Secretary Kiran Kulkarni sent a letter to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in which he asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to re -examine the clearance certificate released to the film and stopped his release until deciding on its request.
It is feared that the film’s exhibition, originally slated to hit theaters on August 8, can cause laws and order problems, according to its current form.
Sheller told reporters here, “The government immediately took action on receiving complaints that ‘Khalid’s Shivaji’ spreads misinformation and damages emotions. We have taken this stand in alignment with Shiva devotees and society.”
At the screening of the film at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year, he said, “The responsibility is with those who recommended the film for the festival screening. The producer and director is now called by the Central Board of Film Certification, which has started action.” The BJP minister said that an expert committee had recommended that the film be sent to the Cannes Festival, but the recommendation was later withdrawn.
“We will remove the film from the Cannes Festival selection listing and sent an email in this regard. I have written to CBFC and took the post that if the film spreads lies and damages emotions, then action should be followed. CBFC has initiated action based on complaints, which accuses the wrong details of the film.”
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Public Works Department Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosle, descendants of Shivaji Maharaj, said that he had not seen the film, but no objectionable material would be assured.
Talking to reporters in Ratnagiri district, the BJP leader gave objectionable warnings against the 17th -century Maratha Warrier King or other icons in Maharashtra.
Bhosle said, “I have not seen the film. However, if there is anything objectionable in it, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will consider banning ban. We will not tolerate anything objectionable against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj or other icons of Maharashtra.”
