In India’s cultural fantasy, The wedding music is a scene of music, comradery and color. What if that gathering became a platform for women to question expectations and share their truths during generations?
This is the basis of the writer and director Purva King Ladies Music: A Music DrunkWhich mixes music, humor and social criticism. Kiran Nadar was presented as part of its growing cultural programming by Nadar Museum of Art (KNA), the play returns to Delhi-NCR after almost a decade, in the garment house, Gurugram on 30 August.
The production of Mumbai (established by Purva and Asmit Pateer) is the music of Vidushi Shubh Mudgal, Harpreet, Anadi Nagar and Nishant Aggarwal.
For Purva, drama art is deeply attracted to its early years. Trained in Kathak and collision, she recalls that her gurus are being urged to surrender a thorough surrender to a discipline. “Home at home was encouraged to question and find,” she says, “but my gurus and institutions always pushed me to obedience and choose one form on the other.”

Laughter as a lens

The play also shows its own quarrel between reverence and rebellion. “As a classically trained dancer and percussionist, I have deep respect for art and my gurus. I had to find a balance between undisputed reverence and informed honor.”
Still relevant, still resonant

Social media, she says, has only promoted hunger for spectacle. “The only change is that middle-class parents are hand-twisted in organizing grand weddings with less guests, so the couple may have more space for friends or a serious festival.” The rise of ticket ‘fake weddings’ and music events, especially in Delhi, proves its point.

For Purva, theater remains the most powerful medium to investigate such contradictions. “The moment the audience buys a ticket is a contract. They suspend disbelief, and the artist promises a world through imagination. How can it not leave an impact on both sides?” She asks.
