Now over the years, lion roars at the Chepack Stadium Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) the ancient anthem ‘Idu Chennai Super Kings’ after a loyal and foot-tamping singing. But when it was built during the first edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008, two of the four singers on the track, Ranjith Govind and Rahul Nambiar, said they had no idea what they were recording for composer Mani Sharma.

“At that time, no one knew what the IPL was or what it was going to be. We just thought that it could be a fun song to clap in a game. Ever since, ever since, since every four, six more wickets, when the song plays in a CSK game, it is very good to see the crowd and sing this Anthem that we used to record this.” Ranjith says that although both singers have sung a hit number in various film industries in India and are well known for their work, their contribution to CSK Anthem is hardly known.

“I don’t think anyone ever recognizes us [and singers Naveen Madhav and Suchitra] It is always a pleasure to see it playing from this song but during the tournament. We once lived this song with a full band 15 years ago and got to watch the match from the performance stand. This was a good experience, “he says. Ranjith and Rahul say they are respected to be part of one of the most funded ceremonies in Chennai – when CSK plays – and they will not trade it for anything else.
