Remember Robert Redford: The Great Gatsbi to the common people, a look at his prestigious films

One of Hollywood’s most recognized and permanent figures, Robert Redford, died at his home in the mountains outside Utah on Tuesday. He was 89 years old. The New York Times confirmed the death, citing its campaigner Cindy Berger, who said that Redford died in sleep. No cause of death was given.

Redford gained popularity in the late 1960s, broke as a sunday kid in Buch Cassidi and The Sunndens Kid (1969). In the early 1970s, he became a trusted star that could carry both the box office hit and more severe fare. His role in Sting (1973) gave him the Academy Award nomination for the Best Actor.

As the years passed, Redford expanded beyond acting. He directed the common people in 1980, a play that won four Oscars, including the best portrait, and received the direction award. He later received another direction nomination for the Quiz Show (1994).
