Chennai: MollyWood Superstar Mohanlal will be awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023 for his admirable contribution to Indian cinema.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced to handle its official X (earlier Twitter) and wrote, “On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is happy to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023.”

Considering Mohanlal’s cinematic visit, he said, “Mohanlal’s remarkable cinematic travel inspires generations! The great actor, director and producer are being honored for his prestigious contribution to Indian cinema. His unmatched talent, versatility and tireless hard work has set a golden standard in Indian film history.”
He further stated that the award will be presented to the actor on 23 September 2025 at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony.
Mohanlal acted in the Malayalam drama “Thiranotam” in 1978 at the age of 18. However, the release of the film was delayed by 25 years, due to censorship issues.
The superstar first appeared on screen in the 1980 romantic drama “Manzil Virinja Pukkal”. He was seen as an opponent in the flick.
In the coming years, Mohanlal continued to prove his subtleties in the role of playing secondary lead, as well as villain roles.
He finally arose for fame with the 1986 crime drama “Rajawintte Maken”.

During his career for more than four decades, he has been part of more than 400 films.
Along with doing Malayalam cinema, Mohanlal has also worked in other languages ​​like Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada.
In 2001, the Government of India honored Mohanlal with Padma Shri, followed by a Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian cinema in 2019.
Later in 2009, Mohanlal became the first actor in the Indian film industry to be awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army.
