Guwahati: Assam’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Crime Investigation Team (CID) team raided Shyamakanu Mahanta’s residence in Guwahati on Friday in connection with the untimely demise of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore.
Shyamakunu was the main organizer of the North East India Festival, responsible for the participation of singer Zubeen Garg at the Mahnta festival.
A team of SIT and CID, under the leadership of SIT Chief Investigating Officer Rosie Kalita, launched a search operation in the house of Shyamakunu Mahata of Guwahati.

On 25 September, SIT and CID teams raided the houses of Zubeen Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, Jubein Garg’s associate musicians, Sekhar Jyoti Goswami and Shyamakanu Mahana and seized several items, including a pendrive, a hard disk, a computer CPU, documents.
CID, Assam, has filed a case (18/2025) under Section 61 (2)/105/106 (1) of BNS, 2023 in connection with the suspected death of singer Zubeen Garg.
Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured the proper investigation into the death of mythological singer Zubeen Garg.
Addressing the Mediaperson here on Thursday, the Chief Minister addressed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the Assam Police, stating that the case would be transferred to the CBI if necessary.

“If the people of Assam feel that the SIT has failed to investigate properly, we will be ready to transfer the case to the CBI. The SIT will have complete freedom to investigate the case with full professional integrity. We will have to wait for some time; all those who were present in Singapore, will be questioned with Zubin Garg,” He said.
Sarma’s comments came out shortly after the state seated a seating for the demise of the “suspicious” and “tragic” heavenly singer by the state.
Zubeen Garg died in Singapore on 19 September after an alleged drowning incident. His body was flown to the national capital, Delhi, and was later taken to Assam on a commercial flight to Guwahati on Sunday morning.
Garg was in Singapore for the Northeast India Festival.

His funeral was performed on 23 September in the presence of hundreds of fans, his family members, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and other political leaders in Kamkuchi village of Assam.
In the crematorium, Zubeen was given a gun salute.
